A lioness housed at the Shivamogga Zoo has died after it sustained injuries during a fight with another lion, the officials said on Tuesday.
The officials said that the big cat Manya, who was 10 years old, had died after a fight with a male on Sunday.
Manya had come to the Shivamogga facility as a cub. She was shifted from Mysuru Zoo in 2012.
Following the death of Manya, the total number of lion and lioness in the zoo has now come down to five.
Executive director of the Zoo Mukund Chandra said, the big cats Yashavanth and Manya got into a fight in their enclosure. According to him, it is common among big cats to fight in the enclosure. After a postmortem, Manya was cremated at the zoo, he said.
