Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada district Lakshmi Priya K, has implemented a prohibitory order in Shirur area of Ankola taluk, responding to landslide risks.
The order prohibits activities near the hill, including fishing and bathing in the Gangavali River, and photography along the national highway (NH 66).
The action follows a tragic landslide in the previous year that claimed 11 lives, with two victims still unaccounted for. The river continues to contain debris from the incident, which remains uncleared by the administration.
Under the Disaster Management Act 2005, the stretch between chainage 147+300 and 148+800 of NH 66 has been designated as a danger zone. These safety measures shall continue throughout the monsoon season.
The prohibitory order will remain in force until the end of the monsoon season. The public is advised to cooperate and follow the instructions to ensure their safety.
The district administration appeals to the public to avoid visiting the danger zone and to follow the restrictions strictly to avoid any untoward incidents.
