A shocking incident took place at the Mysuru Palace premises on Friday night, where Dhananjaya, one of the famous Mysuru Dasara elephants, attacked another elephant, Kanjan. Kanjan, fled the premises in fear. However, DCP Prabhugowda downplayed the incident, stating that it’s a common occurrence between the two elephants, who are from the same camp and have a history of fighting
The incident highlights the challenges of managing aggressive male elephants, but thankfully, no major harm occurred. The skilled mahouts were able to calm Kanjan down after he pushed open the barricade and ran out, seeing the crowd outside.
It’s worth noting that the Dasara elephants undergo rigorous training to prepare for the festivities. The elephants are chosen based on strength, personality, and character, with factors like walking style, facial charisma, and weaknesses considered ¹. This year, 14 elephants are participating in the Dasara celebrations, with four reserve elephants ready to replace them if needed.
