A black cobra accidentally ingested a 1-foot 2-inch knife at the residence of Govind Naik in Hegdegrama, Kumta taluk, Uttara Kannada district. The reptile had mistaken the unwashed meat-cutting knife for potential prey.
The kitchen implement had vanished from its usual spot on the wall. The household members remained indoors, wary of the serpent in their yard. Subsequently, they noticed the snake in distress after the knife’s disappearance, raising concerns about its condition.
The family contacted snake expert Pawan Naik and veterinarian Advaith Bhat for assistance. Upon examination, they discovered the knife lodged inside the cobra and determined surgical intervention was necessary for its survival. Following thirty minutes of careful extraction, they successfully removed the knife from the cobra’s body. After providing medical care, Pawan released the recovered snake into its natural forest habitat.
