Karnataka was experiencing extensive rainfall as the monsoon approached. According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) data recorded at 8:30 am on May 26, 2025, several districts witnessed heavy to extremely heavy precipitation.
In Kodagu district, Birunani within Virajpet taluk documented substantial rainfall measuring 274 mm. Additional locations in Kodagu, including Ponnampet and Madikeri, registered considerable precipitation between 125 mm and 178.5 mm.

Sullia and Bantwal taluks in Dakshina Kannada district recorded precipitation exceeding 150 mm. Notable areas in Sullia, specifically Bellare and Guthigaru, registered rainfall surpassing 200 mm. Additionally, Udupi district’s Karkala and Kundapur taluks experienced rainfall exceeding 100 mm.
The rainfall extended beyond these regions to Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga, which received moderate to heavy precipitation. Bengaluru city established a new May rainfall record with 307.9 mm recorded from May 1 to 6 am on May 26, 2025, surpassing the previous mark of 305.4 mm from May 2023.
KSNDMC’s forecast for the subsequent 24 hours predicted widespread rainfall ranging from light to heavy, with specific locations expected to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rains across Coastal areas, adjacent Malnad regions, and sections of North Interior Karnataka (NIK) districts. The forecast also indicated isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds across the state.
Local authorities advised residents to remain vigilant and implement necessary safety measures. Given the prediction of heavy rainfall in the upcoming days, it was crucial for the public to maintain preparedness and stay updated with current weather information.
