Karnataka Forest, Ecology, and Environment Minister Eshwara B Khandre has stated that denotification of forest land in HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) possession is illegal. The land in question is located in Peenya Jalahalli Plantation, Survey Nos. 1 and 2.

The minister’s stance comes after senior officials submitted an application to the Supreme Court seeking denotification, claiming that the forest character had been lost. However, during a site inspection on September 25, Khandre observed that the area still retains its dense forest cover, spanning hundreds of acres.

Khandre emphasized that the entire process is unlawful and suggested withdrawing the application. He highlighted that HMT has been illegally selling its possessed forest land through auctions, as noted in a meeting held on July 17, 2018.

The area’s green cover is crucial for Bengaluru, serving as a vital lung space. Khandre’s stance underscores the importance of preserving the city’s ecological balance.
