The ongoing wild elephant-human conflict in Hassan district has claimed another life. A 45-year-old woman, Chandramma, was killed by a wild elephant in Ankihalli village, Belur taluk, while working in a coffee plantation. The elephant attacked her, lifting her with its trunk and trampling her to death. Following the incident, forest department personnel and police rushed to the scene.
This unfortunate event marks the fourth death in Hassan this year due to wild elephant attacks. Despite efforts to address the issue, including recent visits by Forest Minister Eshwar B Khandare and a two-month-long elephant capture operation that relocated half a dozen elephants, the situation remains unchanged.
