Recently, a female wolf gave birth to eight pups in Bankapura, Karnataka, thanks to the conservation efforts of the Forest Department. The Bankapura Wolf Sanctuary, spread over 332 hectares, is home to around 35-40 wolves, including the new pups. The sanctuary, located in the Gangavati regional division, also provides a habitat for various other wildlife species like tigers, leopards, sloth bears, and wild boars.
The forest officials have taken measures to ensure the safety of the new pups, and the public has been advised not to disturb them. The Karnataka government has also declared the sanctuary as a “Wolf Sanctuary” and plans to develop it as a tourist destination. The forest department has been instructed to conduct a study and submit a report for the development of the sanctuary.
